Providing support, guidance, and compassionate care during a difficult time.
Deciding to euthanize your dog is an agonizing and emotional process. Animals touch our hearts quickly, and the decision to let them leave our side can be heart-wrenching. At Crossroads Animal Hospital, we will do our best to assist you in making that final decision.
Euthanasia is an overdose of barbiturates given by injection that stops the dog’s heart. It is a painless, humane, termination of life. Seeking counsel from family, friends, and your veterinarian can help you with this difficult decision. Ultimately, you must trust yourself to make the best choice for your pet.
Currently, we do not offer this service, but we can provide you with a recommendation for a mobile veterinarian that does.
The euthanasia drug is administered by injection. It is done by putting a catheter into the vein on the front leg. Once the catheter is in place, the family is given some time to say their final goodbye. When everyone is ready, the drug is slowly administered into the catheter.
