Keep your cat healthy through regular deworming to prevent health issues caused by parasites.
All cats are at risk of being infected with worms, however well cared for they are. Many cats will have internal parasites at some stage in their life. Worms can cause potential health problems for your feline friend if left untreated. Some of these may include vomiting, diarrhea and weight loss.
There are many different types of cat worms. Tapeworms, roundworms and hookworms are the most common of these pesky creatures. While all of these worms could affect your cat’s health, the good news is they can be treated and controlled quite easily. Deworming your cat will not prevent them from getting worms, so your feline friend may become infested shortly after treatment. Deworming on a regular basis, monthly, or bi-monthly will help ensure your cat remains healthy. Cats that live or play outdoors will be required to be dewormed more frequently than an indoor cat, but your veterinarian will be able to recommend a prevention plan that is right for your cat. Most of these worms are relatively harmless to people, with that being said speaking to your veterinarian and family physician will help keep you and your family protected. Deworming medications are very safe and effective for your cat. Side effects from deworming are generally uncommon but could be salivating, vomiting or diarrhea.
