Cats typically take care of day to day grooming all by themselves. They can maintain a healthy-looking coat by daily grooming and distributing natural oils to keep their coat shiny and clean. Some cats with thick, long coats may need a bit of help keeping up their appearance.

Since most cats tend to groom themselves with little or no help from their owner, it is important to notice any changes in their coat. It can be an indication of how your cat is feeling, is he having trouble grooming himself possible due to being stiff and sore, or could it be because of weight gain. Check for hair loss patches, excessive shedding, dry/dull coat, and matting. If you notice any of these changes, it may be a good time to book an appointment with your veterinarian for a checkup.

Sometimes cat hair can become so matted that the regular brushing or trimming cannot be accomplished. It can become painful as the matted hair starts to pull and tighten. Some cats may not mind going to the groomer and having their coats shaved off. If your cat is too anxious or aggressive for a regular grooming appointment, we can lightly sedate them as the last option.
